Tim Howard has expressed his delight at being able to return to the MLS
Former Everton and Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has expressed his delight at being able to return to the MLS – a league where it all began for him more than a decade ago.
The 37-year-old recently signed for Colorado Rapids and is expected to make his debut for his new club in the game against Portland Timbers. The goalkeeper says that he cannot wait for his debut. When asked about the reason for continuing to play at the top level even at 37, Howard claimed that he was scared about the fear of failure.
Goalkeepers rarely require time off from the game, but Howard certainly may need one after having been continuously playing football for the last three years. The former United goalkeeper, though, has dismissed such concerns by saying that he is ready to start performing at the very best for Colorado Rapids.
The 2016 campaign is turning out into one of the most exciting in the MLS largely due to the arrival of new franchises, who have been able to attract many new talents like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
Howard has dismissed claims that he is ready to retire just like many goalkeepers of his age. Instead, he says that he feels motivated than ever to continue playing football.
“The sooner I can get on the field, the better. It’s been a long time coming just because of the way the seasons are structured both here in MLS and abroad.I’ll be retired for a lot longer, so I’ll have time to look back. Right now, I’m hungry, I’m excited, I love to compete, I love to play and it can’t come soon enough.Everton is always in my heart, it’s the club I spent 10 years at. But it’s a new chapter, a new challenge, it’s something I’m hungry for here,”said Howard.
