Colorado Rapids Bring in Steve Cooke as Replacement for Pablo Mastroeni
Colorado Rapids assistant manager Steve Cooke has been promoted as the interim boss for the team after the club decided to sack manager Pablo Mastroeni following a poor run of results.
Colorado Rapids have been struggling since the start of the season. The team has struggled the most when it comes to the games, as they have been unable to win any of the matches up until now. Even though Colorado Rapids have been reasonably good at home, the club decided to make the change with 12 matches left in the season.
Cooke knows the players extremely well after having been the longtime assistant manager at the club, but he is expecting significant changes in their attitude now that he is the main man in charge. He has been at the club in various positions since 2010. Cooke has admitted that it was difficult to see Mastroeni leave the club in surprising fashion, but the possibility of a sack was coming for several months. Colorado Rapids were unable to find form throughout the season.
Earlier in the campaign, the absence of Tim Howard was named as a reason. Now, though, even the return of the former Everton goalkeeper has been unable to prevent the club from moving up the table.
“I’m certain there is shock. Because when a great person loses their position it’s not a great moment for anybody. This is not somebody who lost the locker room. When you look at the players, they always gave everything for Pablo and for the team and for each other. And I think the players have been really professional in their approach. They’ve embraced the change which is always important and I think they’re reactions this week have been nothing but first class,” said Cooke. The task for Cooke will be to improve the away form so as to resemble something decent.
