ROO AS CAPTAIN
Wayne Rooney is the top candidate on becoming the next captain of Manchester United after Nemanja Vidic makes his way out of the Premier League club but the English forward has also revealed his desire of captaining England.
Steven Gerrard is the current captain of England but speculation of the Liverpool legend not being featured for the 2014 World Cup has risen ever since Roy Hodgson admitted that some big name players will be dropped and will not be travelling to Brazil.
It seems like just about no one is safe and the players will have to demonstrate that they are ready to represent England and help them secure the silverware they have failed on securing since 1966.
Even if Gerrard is named into Hodgson’s list of 23 players, it is very likely that it will be his last World Cup considering his age and Rooney admitted his ambition of being the captain of England and said that he has what it takes in order to lead the team.
"I've done it a few times and, if the manager wants me to be the captain, I would have no problem with that. I would take it with both hands. However, it is down to the manager, because it's his decision on whoever he feels is the right person to lead the team. I'm sure he'll make that decision when the time comes’’.
"I think, whether you've got the armband or not, I always feel I'm quite vocal on the pitch. I try to help the players when I feel I can and say what I think. I believe that's the most important thing, to be honest and say what you feel. If you say what you believe are the right things, you need to keep doing that." Rooney said.
