Thierry Henry Hails Jordan Pickford As Everton’s Player Of The Season
Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry believes Jordan Pickford has been Everton’s player of the 2017/18 season. The England international joined the Toffees from struggling Sunderland last summer, and he has since put in a number of top-notch performances, which have earned him comparisons with club legend Tim Howard.
Over the weekend, Pickford was once again in good form against Sean Dyche’s Burnley, and Henry appeared to dig at the Toffees’ defence whilst praising the shot-stopper, he said: “He’s been the most consistent player for Everton. Not only for minutes, but also what he is doing on the field. That tells you a lot if your goalkeeper is the player of the season.”
Pickford started the game with a string of impressive saves which preserved the Toffees’ 1-0 lead heading into the break. However, following the interval, Pickford was at fault at reacting slowly to Burnley’s opener, and this was followed by a late Chris Wood goal, which ended the Clarets’ 11 match unbeaten run in the top-flight.
With this indecision, Gareth Southgate has a selection headache ahead of the World Cup, having yet to decide on his number one stop-stopper. The Three Lions boss went with Joe Hart and Pickford for the friend lies against Brazil and Germany in November 2017, but he now has a much difficult decision to make, considering the former has barely featured in the Premier League in 2018.
Hart had hoped to earn regular first-team football with West Ham United through the current campaign, but his temporary move has slowly turned into regret with David Moyes reluctant to play him in the top-flight. In fact, the 30-year-old has not started a Premier League game since Moyes’ arrival in November, but the Scot has confirmed that Hart could feature more regularly in the coming matches, with Adrian failing to impress.
